Reduce the Apperance of Scars

If you are unhappy with the look and feel of your skin but don’t want to undergo painful treatments such as harsh peels, painful lasers or surgeries, you may be wondering: what can I do about my skin’s appearance? The answer to that question is microneedling. Microneedling is a natural-based treatment that can help rejuvenate your skin’s appearance without painful treatments like surgeries and harsh peels. The following is a guide to micro-needling and how it can help you improve the look of your skin.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a unique treatment that uses a special tool called a derma pen. The derma pen has 12 microneedles inside which will penetrate the skin using a stamping motion. This stamping motion causes local trauma to the skin, which causes the body to begin producing a higher amount of elastin, collagen, fibrin and growth factors to the area that was penetrated with the microneedles. The end result of this is reduced appearance of lines, wrinkles, acne scars, dark spots, as well as firmer and more toned looking skin. The overall complexion will be improved as well.

Benefits of Microneedling

There are many benefits to using microneedling over other types of facial treatments. Some of the most notable benefits of microneedling is the fact that there is minimal pain with microneedling; most patients report feeling a slight pressure from the needles but no serious pain. Another benefit is the fact that microneedling has minimal downtime when compared to other types of treatments such as chemical peels, surgeries and lasers, which can cause some significant pain for hours or even days. Another benefit is that there are minimal side effects as well as long-lasting results that go beyond the typical “few months” results of other types of treatments.

Microneedling Treatment

Microneedling typically takes about 60 minutes in all. Before the treatment, the skin will be cleansed using a special cleanser. Then, a numbing cream will be applied to the skin and left on for about 20 minutes so that it takes full effect. Finally, some hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C will be applied to the skin. Then the actual microneedling treatment will begin.

You may need more than one treatment to achieve the desired results. Depending on the type of skin condition being treated—such as acne scars, dark spots, etc.—you may need to return every 4 weeks for more treatment until results are achieved.

Side Effects and results

Most people experience minimal side effects. Common side effects include slight redness, slight irritation, pinpoint bleeding, as well as itchiness and mild swelling. These side effects disappear within 12 to 24 hours.

After the treatment, there may be slight redness or mild sunburn-like effect for a few hours. It will take anywhere from 12 hours to 48 hours for the treatment to fully heal. It may take about 4 to 6 weeks to see the final results, due to the fact that you will need to wait for the body to produce the right amount of collagen, elastin, and so on to see the best results.
